Please use the toolbar on your left to find your way around. Inside you can meet your favourite presenters and hopefully find out what they are doing now. We are including as many of the staff as possible including News and Technical operators and receptionists. Our aim is to capture some of the unique atmosphere generated by what was the "Jewel in the crown" of Independant Local Radio. We start in 1982 and go through to the 90`s, our end point has to be when the station dropped RED ROSE from it`s name. At this point we will provide a link to the current incarnation of the station which is 97.4 ROCK FM We hope you enjoy the memories of Lancashires Red Rose Radio
This is a fansite
catering those of us in Lancashire (and beyond) who fondly remember how Red Rose used to be.

Our journey should begin on the
5th of October 1982 but I have not the time or patience to
do everything chronologically, however I will certainly do
the best I can and with YOUR help I feel sure that this site
will continue to be a success.

Any contributions would
be greatly appreciated, especially if you were there and helped
to make it all happen.
I am also looking for people to help me edit the site and keep it as up to date as is humanly possible, if you can help in any way at all please do contact me. It doesnt have to be directly editing the site, you can submit articles on any past presenter or photographs from the many road shows. I would particularly like some pictures of the conversion of St. Pauls Church.

RED ROSE 301
At 6 am on the fifth
of October 1982 the Chairman of Red Rose Radio PLC,Millionaire businessman
Owen Oyston welcomed us all to Red Rose Radio, Dave Lincoln was the first
presenter on air that day, he was followed by Russell Harty, Keith Macklin
and Allan Beswick though not necessarily in that order. Presenters came
and went, and in some cases came back again !! Every presenter we have contacted
has remembered Red Rose Radio with Great fondness and affection, I hope
we can encapsulate a little of the Red Rose spirit on this little tribute
site.
"In Tune With Lancashire Loud and Clear 301"
"In The Northwest .......
You Know What`s Best"

Here we hope to chart the history and evolution of Lancashire`s
RED ROSE RADIO.
As the site develops we will be including memories
of past Red Rose Radio presenters and where they are now.Maybe we will gain an understanding of how Red Rose Radio became such a big part of Lancashire life in the 1980`s and 90`s
We have a load of the old Red Rose Radio 301
and Red Rose Gold publicity pics.Check out
the Audio section for free download of Jingles in mp3 and free download of classic
Allan Beswick clips plus the pre opening announcements and welcome by Owen Oyston.
There are plenty of ex Red Rose Radio presenters
still in the area on other stations so, if you had a particular favourite just
visit their page to find details of their current station, including contact
info via their station website.(if applicable)
We will also have contributions and gossip from the people who were there and
made it all happen, and I don`t just mean the presenters.Red Rose Radio
began broadcasting on the 5th of October 1982 from
a converted church in Preston, Lancashire and was good local radio from day one.The
Station has been through various re branding phases and is still going under the
guises of 97.4 ROCK FM and MAGIC 999 But sadly (IN
MY OPINION) it seems to have lost something, My kids Rave about ROCK
FM so obviously I`m stuck in a time warp, times do change and things have to change
with them.
I have no doubt that Rock FM and Magic are
very good at what they do in local radio and I have no doubt there will be a
site full of Magic and Rock
FM memories in a few years time.
However we are here to enjoy the memories of
what was the jewel in the crown of independant local radio and a big part of
Lancashire life in the 1980`s and 90`s, Red
Rose Radio and
Red Rose Gold .
The dropping of the Red Rose was a sore point across the county but the
"powers that be" know better!(allegedley)
At least we are left with the memories of Red Rose Radio
and Sally Moon in the afternoon, Dave Lincoln`s Morning Market
and Allan Beswick`s phone-in with Alice on the phones and later,
Rodney.Did you call 0772 561000 ? Not to forget the night crew, Derek
Webster and Jerry Rowlands, Ian Calvert and Andy Brittain. There are also articles
on local news from the period as covered by Red Rose Radio, including the Abbeystead
disaster.
The Abbeystead disaster must still be the biggest challenge
that has been faced by Red Rose Radio`s news room.
Red Rose Radio gave the news to the world through the
IRN network. Local news bulletins were extended and Red Rose Radio recieved
a letter of commendation from the IBA regional office a piece of which read.
"A tragedy of this nature stretches
a radio station`s resources. It would seem that through this tragedy that Red
Rose Radio has been drawn even closer to the community which it serves so well."
You are welcome to download anything from the site
they are your memories as well. It is purely for your (and our) enjoyment. We
hope you will want to contribute any stories from Red Rose Radio, especially if
you are an ex presenter with a few amusing anecdotes.Do you have any pics of the
presenters, do you want to publish them on here? If so click the "Contact link"
on the left and we`ll get it sorted.I would also appreciate some comment on the
site, good or bad please let me know so I can alter and amend as needed.
