John GillmoreFondly known as "GILLY" is one of the nicest guys in Radio and is currently based at 96.9 THE BAY in Lancaster. Red Rose gave Gilly his first break in Radio.
It was March 1987 when Gilly joined the crew in the
converted church at St Pauls square in Preston.
Prior to that he worked as a clerk for the co-Op.
For many years John was a volunteer with his local hospital
radio station at Whiston Hospital near St. Helens,
and he says this gave him valuable broadcasting experience
and helped him achieve his ambition to present professionally.
I saw a pic of Gilly recently and he hasn`t aged at all for some reason !
In fact he looks younger now than he did 10 years ago.
(come on John what is the secret?)
Always popular with the listener Gilly drew massive support from the
local media and the public when RED ROSE announced that they would not be re-newing his contract.

Page 1 of 2 Tune in to John Gillmore on Red Rose`s loss was soon The Bay`s gain, Listeners in the north of the county re-tuned their dials from Red Rose Radio to The Bay not for spite, but to listen a familiar friendly voice who they felt at home with and were comfortable with. The voice of John Gillmore. I`m pretty sure now that looking back that Gilly would say Red Rose
was the jewel in the crown of Independant Local Radio in Lancashire,
but times do change and even though it doesn`t look good or rather sound
good, it has to happen.
Gilly you`re a gentleman.
Thanks for visiting Gilly`s page, don`t forget there are lots more presenters on the site and if your favourite is missing let me know. ! BACK
