Keith Macklin

Keith Macklin, sports journalist, radio commentator, and TV presenter was, I guess regarded as the elder statesman at Red Rose Radio, with around 26 years broadcasting experience at the time Red Rose began.

As well as being a broadcaster and journalist, Keith has written three books that I know of:-

The History of Rugby League Football. Published: 1962
The Rugby League Game. Published: 1967
and The Story of Rugby League. Published: 1984
I gather from this that he is passionate about Rugby !

Keith can be heard on the Red Rose Radio pre-opening announcements on the Jingles page. On the first day of Red Rose Radio Keith had the late Les Dawson as his special guest, I doubt any recordings of that interview survived but I will try to get one if possible. His first programme was called Mid-day with Macklin which ran from 12 til 2, followed by Allan Beswick.

My personal last memory of Keith in the flesh is when I saw him perched, (rather precariously it appeared!) on top of the Red Rose Radio landrover while covering the Red Rose fun run through the streets of Preston.

Today Keith is still at it clocking an incredible 46 years broadcasting up and no plans to slow down yet, he regularly contrbutes to Magic 999 and Rock FM, as well as commentating on football for ITV sport. As if this wasn`t enough, Keith has been involved with The Burn 106 FM covering Darwen and Blackburn, who have just finished their third Restricted Service License.
